United Picket Action to Free All the Cuban 5!
United Picket Action in Vancouver, BC Demands "Free ALL the Cuban 5 Now!"
On Saturday June 1st, 2013 hundreds of people from around the world gathered together in front of the White House in Washington DC to demand "Enough! Obama Free the Cuban 5 Heroes Now!". The protest was organized as part of the second "5 Days for the Cuban 5" Campaign, a series of actions for the freedom of the Cuban 5 taking place in Washington DC from May 30 - June 5, organized by the International Committee to Free the Cuban 5, with the support of more than 50 individuals and organizations.
On this same day, people in Vancouver added their voices of support and solidarity to this international "5 Days for the 5" campaign with a united picket action in front of the U.S. Consulate in Downtown Vancouver. The joint picket was organized by the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association-Vancouver (CCFA), and endorsed by Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) and the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver. Organizers and supporters from all three organizations came together with large banners, brightly coloured picket signs and one strong and unified voice to demand "Free ALL the Cuban 5 Now!" Information about the case of the Cuban 5 was also handed out to people walking by and loud honks of support could be heard from the passing cars.
René is free, the struggle continues!
The news on May 3rd, 2013, that a U.S. judge signed the order to allow René González, one of the Cuban 5 Heroes unjustly imprisoned in U.S. jails, to serve the remainder of his 3 year parole in Cuba, and to stay in Cuba with his family and his people thereafter, was a victory felt with great happiness and joy. However, this also comes with the understanding that the struggle for the freedom of our Cuban Heroes is far from over. After his release, René González wrote that “Since the beginning of our battle we have done everything to convey to the world and to the U.S. government, as they tried to break us down, that instead of five families we are all one. The day we are all together then my family and myself will celebrate and rest. But for now for us the struggle continues”.
Now is the time to strengthen our unity, increase our efforts and redouble our commitment to this international struggle for dignity and justice. Together we must continue the struggle to free ALL the Cuban 5 and together we will win!
In Vancouver participants in the June 1st united picket action vowed to return to the U.S. Consulate in just 5 days to raise their banners and their voices once again for our Cuban 5 heroes. The Free the Cuban 5 Committee - Vancouver invites everyone to join them on June 5th at 4pm for the 91st monthly protest action outside the U.S. coonsulate to demand:

“¡Liberen a TODOS los Cinco Cubanos Ahora!"
El sábado 1 de junio de 2013, cientos de personas de todo el mundo se
reunieron en frente de la Casa Blanca en Washington DC para exigir:
“¡Basta! Obama, libere a los Cinco Héroes Cubanos AHORA!”. La protesta
fue organizada como parte de la segunda campaña “Cinco días por los
Cinco” (5 Days for the Cuban 5), una serie de acciones por la libertad
de los Cinco, que tiene lugar en Washington DC, desde el 30 de mayo al
5 de junio, organizada por el Comité Internacional por la Liberación
de los Cinco, con el apoyo de más de 50 individuos y organizaciones.
Este propio día, personas en Vancouver unieron sus voces de apoyo y
solidaridad a esta jornada internacional “5 Días por los 5”, con un
piquete de acción unida frente al Consulado de Estados Unidos en el
Centro de Vancouver. El piquete conjunto fue organizado por la
Asociación de Amistad Cuba-Canadá de Vancouver (CCFA: Canadian-Cuban
Friendship Association-Vancouver) y promocionado por las Comunidades
de Vancouver en Solidaridad con Cuba (VCSC: Vancouver Communities in
Solidarity with Cuba) y el Comité por la Libertad de los Cinco de
Vancouver. Los organizadores y partidarios de las tres organizaciones
se unieron con grandes estandartes, brillantemente coloreados carteles
y una fuerte y unificada voz de “¡Liberen a TODOS los Cinco AHORA!”.
Se brindó también información sobre el caso de los Cinco a los
pasantes, y se escucharon grandes bocinazos de apoyo por parte de los
autos que circulaban cerca.
¡René ya está en libertad, la lucha continúa!
La noticia el 3 de mayo de 2013 de que la jueza norteamericana había
firmado la orden de permitir a René González, uno de los Cinco Héroes
Cubanos injustamente prisioneros en cárceles norteamericanas, terminar
el resto de su libertad supervisada en Cuba, y permanecer allí con su
familia y su pueblo al término de la misma, fue una victoria que se
sintió con mucha felicidad y regocijo. Sin embargo, esto también
sucedió con la consciencia de que la lucha por la libertad de nuestros
Héroes Cubanos está lejos de terminarse. Después de su liberación,
René González escribió que “Desde el principio de nuestra batalla,
hemos hecho todo lo posible para transmitir al mundo y al gobierno de
Estados Unidos, a medida de que trataban de quebrarnos, que en lugar
de cinco familias, todos éramos una. El día que todos estemos juntos,
entonces mi familia y yo celebraremos y descansaremos. Pero por ahora,
la lucha continúa.”
Ahora es hora de fortalecer nuestra unidad, incrementar nuestros
esfuerzos y redoblar nuestro compromiso con esta lucha internacional
por la dignidad y la justicia. ¡Juntos, debemos continuar la lucha
para liberar a TODOS los Cinco y juntos venceremos!
En Vancouver, los participantes en el piquete de acción unida del 1 de
junio se comprometieron a regresar al Consulado de Estados Unidos en
apenas 5 días para levantar sus banderas y sus voces una vez más por
nuestros Cinco Héroes Cubanos. El Comité de Vancouver por la
Liberación de los Cinco invita a todos el 5 de junio a las 4 pm para
que participen en la 91ra acción de protesta mensual fuera del
consulado de Estados Unidos para exigir:
¡LIBEREN A LOS CINCO AHORA!
¡LIBEREN INMEDIATAMENTE A ANTONIO, FERNANDO, RAMÓN Y GERARDO DE
PRISIONES NORTEAMERICANAS!
¡OTORGUEN DE INMEDIATO LA VISA A ADRIANA PÉREZ!
