A Letter to Fernando from the Free the Cuban 5 Committee - Vancouver
February 27, 2014
We, the participants in the Thursday, February 27th, 2014 meeting of the Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver, would like to express our extreme happiness about your release from U.S. federal prison today! This is joy we are sure we share with the people of Cuba, and we can only imagine your own exhilaration to be seeing your family, friends, and beloved country in the near future.
This is our last meeting before March 5th, where for the 100 consecutive month we will protest in front of the United States Consulate in Vancouver to demand freedom for all of the Cuban 5. We will be joined by solidarity actions in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Chicago, San Francisco and others, to denounce your unjust imprisonment, and demand the immediate release of Ramon, Antonio and Gerardo.
That you were made to serve even one minute, let alone more than 15 years, of your unjust sentence will go down in history as proving once again that the United States does not have a justice system, it has a legal system which lacks all justice. However, for now we will use the joy of your impending return to Cuba, like the joy we felt when Rene returned one year ago, and use it as fuel for our ongoing struggle.
As we organize all of the final details for the March 5th action, we are sure that like Rene, you will maximize your new found freedom as an important part of this struggle. Please count on us as allies on the winding road to freedom. See you in Havana!
With Love and Solidarity,
Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver
